ROTARY GIFT & EXHIBIT PLAN
The Dawson County Historical Society
announced, March 10th, the organization's "Bridging Generations…Building for the Future" capital campaign passed the $1 million mark with pledges to date of $1,018,000.
It was a pledge by the Lexington Rotary Club of $15,000 which boosted the Historical Society over the million dollar mark.
"The Dawson County Historical Society is an
important institution, our depository for county historical records, and is one of the best attractions in the state," commented Paul Matson, Rotarian President.
"We are pleased to support the needed renovations and expansion at their facility."
Accepting the gift on behalf of the Campaign
Steering Committee, Lexington Area Chair Gary Schultz stated, "The Lexington Rotary Club is a great steward of the community and we appreciate their generous support."
The Lexington Rotary Club was founded in
June of 1938, with the Rotarian's motto of "Service Above Self", demonstrated by the power of cooperation in making a positive difference in projects for local communities, as recently as the Lexington
Library, educational programs with the schools and youth, and in projects worldwide with over 1.2 million members.
Unveiled at this time was the Historical
Society's new exhibit plan for the renovation and expansion project at the Dawson County Historical Museum.
"We are delighted with the campaign's progress and enthusiastically looking forward to an improved facility," commented Gail Hall, DCHS Board Chair. "The new plan highlights the different exhibit halls and the contents of the exhibits in each of these areas."
Gifts pledged of $25,000 or more to the
campaign may choose to have their gift commemorated at an exhibit space within the facility. Platte Valley Auto Mart and Pony Express Chevrolet will be sponsoring the "Wheel of Progress" Exhibit Hall.
"This new exhibit plan provides an
interpretation of how citizens and visitors will learn and experience Dawson County's rich and diverse history of its people, agriculture, business & industry, innovators, and more," stated Museum
Director Barb Vondras. "The campaign has received donations with requests for recognition to honor special people who have had a memorable influence in the donor's own life"
The Dawson County Historical Society planned
expansion and renovation of its facilities is to ensure the organizations future as a cultural heritage learning center for the communities of Cozad, Farnam, Gothenburg, Eddyville, Lexington, Overton and Sumner. A countywide campaign is being conducted to raise the $1.5 million needed to complete this project and ensure that our county's families, organizations and companies become part of our collective memory.
Campaign Chairman Bill Barrett is leading
the effort along with other volunteers countywide including Lexington Area Chair Gary Schultz, Gothenburg Area Chair Terry Healey, and Cozad Area Chair Barbara Lawson.
