Museum Information


Exhibits & Displays

We have a wide range of historical, cultural, paleontological and artistic collections on display at the museum. As you plan on your visit to the museum, here are a few things to explore.

  • "World of the Mammoth" featuring our resident mammoth "Big Al"
  • "People of the Plains" an archeological look at the first peoples of Dawson County
  • "Fruits of the Earth" honoring our agricultural roots
Check back regularly as we update and change our displays or bring in traveling exhibitions

Historical Buildings

Besides our museum building, we share our campus with several historic buildings and vehicles. Each has made it mark on county history and culture. All are open to the public and contain small displays and related artifacts.

Hours of Operation

The museum is open year round, except for New Year's Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.

Tuesday - Friday
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Saturday
10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Sunday - Monday
Closed

Admission

The Dawson County Historical Society Museum is free to the public. An free will donation is appreciated!
